Did your phone ring just once? Don’t call back!

If your phone rings just once, check the area code and don’t call back.

The Better Business Bureau is warning cell phone users of the new “one ring” scam. The call comes from a remote computer, rings your phone once and then disconnects. A lot of people can’t resist the temptation of finding out who that missed call was from and dial it back and that’s where the scamming begins. If the call was from a one ring scammer, you’ll be charged an immediate $19.95 for that call and an additional $9 per minute charge after that.

If you receive a one ring call, look at the number. Most of these scams come from outside of the U.S., typically from the Caribbean Islands.
