You could start acting a bit like one of the characters. A new study suggests readers who identify with fictional characters are prone to subconsciously adopt their behavior in a phenomenon called “experience-taking.”
Researcher Geoff Kaufman explains, when we lose ourselves inside the world of a fictional character, that first-person narrative can be temporarily transformative, changing the way we see the world, ourselves, and other social groups.
