If you’re buying a used car – look for a CAPA sticker somewhere on the vehicle...

Buying a used car can be risky business...

Consumer Reports has a few things to look for that could indicate that car is a clunker:

• Look all over the car for a CAPA sticker. That stands for Certified Automotive Parts Association and could indicate the car has been in a collision. It’s a small yellow sticker with a bar code.

• Check the tread on the tires. If the wear is uneven, the wheels may be misaligned because of frame damage.

• Check the trunk and under the seats for an air freshener. There might be some water damage from a leak or flood.

• If the dashboard air-bag indicator doesn’t light up – that could mean the air bag was replaced improperly, or not at all, after an accident.
