Canine Cabin Fever

In bad weather, dogs get cabin fever too!

Sick of being inside this winter? So is your dog! A bored dog can wreak havoc on your house – especially if you have to leave. To wear them out when they’re stuck in - dog trainer Robin Bennett has some boredom busters for you and your dog:

• Hide and seek – most dogs really like it and it stimulates them mentally and physically. Unless they’re REALLY good with the stay command - it helps to have someone hold the dog while you hide.

• Teach the dog a new trick – or set up an agility course with obstacles and treats. A new challenge can really help wear them out.

• Tug of war is tried and true. A vigorous session can burn off a lot of canine energy – as long as your dog is capable of playing by your rules. If they get aggressive – pick a different game.
