If your last name is Adams or Bates, I’ll try to make this quick. It seems the Walshes and Williams might have a little more patience. The Journal of Consumer Research has a study that shows the first letter of your last name at birth can set you up to be a little more impulsive. Kids are conditioned to respond in school according to where they fall alphabetically. As adults – more Abrahms and Allens feel compelled to run out and buy that new gadget on the day it hits the market – while the Yates and the Zangrillos just figure they’ll wait.
