Comic Sans is one of the most controversial fonts out there. People seem to either love it – or hate it.
It was created by former Microsoft font designer Vincent Connare and intended to be used for lighter material. After all, Times New Roman was a bit serious for comics, word bubbles and kid-friendly content. The font took off in popularity and has been loved and hated ever since. So when, if ever, should we use it?
Microsoft describes Comic Sans as a casual, non-connecting script for informal use. In other words, it’s the wrong font for professional, business types. However, if you’re a closet Comic Sans fan, it’s a great font for proofreading your own work. It can lighten up the job and may help you spot mistakes. Just don’t forget to change the font back to something more traditional like Arial or Calibri to avoid striking a Comic Sans nerve in your readers.
