Even if you rarely use your old-school landline phone – you may want to keep it.
Consumer Reports has some pretty good reasons to stay connected:
• Savings: If you use a bundle, you may be saving as little as $5 per month by dropping the landline. Most carriers don’t charge much more for the triple-play than the cable and Internet duo.
• Quality: A landline just sounds better than a cell phone. If your home is noisy, or someone is hard of hearing, or you use the phone for business – hang on to the landline.
• Reception: Having a landline can actually improve your cell phone reception. If cell service is weak, consider using Bluetooth technology with your cordless landline.
• Location: In the event of an emergency, 911 can find your general vicinity via GPS with a cell. They’ll have your exact location, even in a high-rise building if you call from a landline.
