Are you ready for a medical home?
It’s not as bad as it sounds. If you’ve already got a primary care doctor that you love, great. If not, look for one that is designated PCMH or Patient Centered Medical Home. You’ll be seeing more of them and PCMH physicians are required to meet specific criteria to earn the designation.
Medical homes have been reorganized to better accommodate the patient. They must have evening and weekend hours and coordinated care with any specialists you might need and provide test results in a timely manner. They’re also required to keep tabs on your appointments, prescriptions, give you more time and attention and fit you in ASAP if the problem is acute.
