What are you going to do with that degree?
That’s one question NOT to ask that new college graduate, unless their degree is super-specialized. Many of today’s graduates will likely end up as freelancers, entrepreneurs or in fields outside of their degree. Do you have a job lined up? If the answer is no, that’s probably another question they don’t want to hear. It would be more helpful if you offer to help them make some professional connections.
If you’re celebrating with a graduate any time soon, let them enjoy the moment and congratulate them on their accomplishment. There’s plenty of time for pressure and unsolicited advice when the party’s over.
