You water your plants and your lawn when it’s hot – don’t forget to water your brain...

Have you watered your brain today?

The brain is 80% water. When it’s hot outside it’s easy to get dehydrated fast. According to Daniel G. Amen, author of “Use Your Brain to Change Your Age,” people who don’t drink enough water or drink dehydrating liquids, such as alcohol or caffeinated coffee or tea, are really stressing out that thirsty brain. When deprived of water, the large part of your brain right behind your forehead is suffering some damage. You may even experience loss of cognition and judgment.

Dr. Amen says 64 ounces of water per day is usually sufficient to keep your brain properly hydrated. If it’s really hot and you’re out in the elements enjoying the summer, it’s easy to forget and you’ll need to water your brain a little more.
