Tree Decorating Don'ts

So you think you know how to decorate that Christmas tree?

It seems a lot of us are decorating our Christmas trees all wrong! We found a design expert to tell us how to do it:

• Forget the real tree – it’s easiest if you start with a pre-lit tree. If you MUST get a real tree – only a Frasier fir or Scotch pine will do.

• You’ll need 125 lights per square foot – preferably white.

• Traditional bright colors are out – deeper tones of red and gold and nature colors are in.

• Lose the shiny stuff – go with natural looking stuff – pinecones and birds. Tinsel is out too – snow spray is in.

• That big angel or star on the top has got to go too. Berries, feather sprays and other natural elements are Christmas Chic.

• Decorate on a diagonal – a symmetrically decorated tree is a boring tree.

Don’t forget to decorate the BACK of the tree in case someone sees it from outside. And you’re not finished until you decorate UNDER the tree. If you’re waiting for santa – put some faux wrapped gifts under there – just make sure those empty boxes are wrapped extravagantly - and match the overall décor of the tree.
