Hey parents - can your toddler type? Why and when to teach them...

Does your child know the Alphabet Song - version 2.0?

It goes like this: A S D F G H J... That’s the home row of the qwerty keyboard and according to Laura St. John, creator of Discovery Kids Puterbugs, little techy tykes should be learning their keyboards at the same time they learn their letters.

Electronic gadgets are in abundance for kids of all ages and a lot of parents are using them to teach and entertain their children as soon as they’re old enough to hold one. Laura says kids as young as 2 can learn to type and teaching them to do it right is more important than we think. She says proper keyboarding is the gateway to digital literacy and it can do wonders for their other fine motor skills. Bad habits like hunting and pecking or two-fingered typing are much harder to break once they’ve set in.
