Could you change the tire on your car by yourself?
Most people can’t. That’s one reason nearly all car new car makers are doing away with the spare. According to Consumer Reports, changing a tire is a skill that has largely gone away. Most of us would rather call roadside assistance than attempt the dreaded change.
The other reason auto makers are ditching the spare is for fuel efficiency. Lugging around a 40 to 50 pound spare and a jack that you’ll never use is a waste of space and gas. Some models will come equipped with a much lighter inflator and sealant kit.
