Big Apple

If you love someone, why does that make them the apple of your eye?

September is National Apple Month. Did you know that:

The average apple has about 80 calories.

The most popular variety of apple is the Red Delicious. In second place, it's the Golden Delicious.

Granny Smith was a real person. A unique seedling grew from some French crab apples on her farm in England in 1868, but she died before they got commercially popular.

In the 1920's, the word apple was used in reference to the prizes awarded in the horse racing circuit. There were a lot of courses in and around New York City, which was soon dubbed the BIG Apple.

In Greek and Roman mythology, apples were symbolic of beauty and love. That's why we call someone we cherish the apple of our eye.
