The next time you take a car for a test-drive – make sure it’s at least 20 minutes...
Grant Winter, founder of Real World Test Drive, says most people don’t drive far enough that first time out. He says it takes 20 minutes or more to really settle in and fully address concerns or questions. Here are a few more test-driving tips:
• Make sure it’s the exact model you’re considering. Options such as a sunroof can change aspects like head-room and noise.
• Try out the back seat – especially if you tend to have more than one adult passenger once in a while.
• Load the trunk. If you use a stroller – bring it along for the test drive. If you travel, pack a suitcase. You want to be sure it’s not a struggle loading those items into your new car.
Once you’re on the road, don’t be shy. Find some bumps to drive over, make a few sudden stops, and find a crowded parking lot or parallel spot to park in. Make sure to ask the salesman to stop talking during your test drive. It’s really important to focus on just the vehicle and the driving. There will be plenty of time to talk later.
