It’s no secret those single serving coffee pods cost more than brewing by the pot...
I’ve got the shocking difference, coming up…Payoff:A lot of us are willing to pay a little more for the convenience of those single cup coffee makers. So, how much are we really paying? According to the Consumerist – as much as $51 a pound! Each capsule contains just 5 to 7 grams of coffee – and a box of 12 costs about ten bucks if they’re not on sale. The average cost for a pound of regular coffee is anywhere from $7 to $12. The most you’ll pay for a pound of really high-end coffee is around $20.
Before you pack up the Keurig and drag out the Mr. Coffee, there is a little more math we can do to justify the convenience. There is no waste with the single serving brewers, while a portion of full-brewed pots tend to end up going down the drain. The inserts available to fill with your own coffee will save a lot of money too – but they’re not quite as convenient as those brew and toss treats.
Actually, people like my wife have had great luck with reusable cups like the Ekobrew
