If you’d like to fly somewhere for Thanksgiving – don’t count on that last minute bargain.
The best time to get a deal on holiday travel is actually in August – but there IS still time to save a little on a flight for Thanksgiving. The sooner you book that flight, the better. The fares will most likely go steadily up between now and late November. Here are a few things you can try:
• Don’t wait until the last minute – experts say there are fewer and fuller flights this year and we shouldn’t expect as many last minute deals.
• Fly on Thanksgiving Day – it will be the least expensive. And the cheapest return flight will be Friday or Saturday.
• Buy one ticket at a time – you will probably find more availability on the best fares with single seats on the same plane.
• Fly in and out of big hub airports – generally speaking, the bigger, the cheaper.
