Can you chew a pill that’s meant to be swallowed? No!

Did you know that chewing a pill that is meant to be swallowed could prove fatal?

It’s true. That’s because releasing too much of the active ingredients at once can be toxic. Even splitting or cutting some medications could be dangerous. If you have trouble swallowing a pill, it’s important to discuss that with your doctor or pharmacists to avoid a potential deadly dose.

About 100,000 Americans are hospitalized per year from medication mistakes. Most involve not following instructions to the letter, mixing up similar sounding medications or doubling up on doses, even with something as seemingly harmless as acetaminophen.
