The 2013 hurricane season is predicted to be a doozie...
Whether or not the potential storms develop, Consumer Reports has a list of what you need to really be prepared:
* Generator: Stationary is much better than portable as it eliminates the hassle of scrambling for gasoline - but they’re not cheap. That could cost somewhere between $2,000 and $10,000, depending on size, and installation could double that cost.
* Chain saw: If you don’t have one, get one.
* Mobile charger: Multiple charge battery packs are on the market for $50 to $100 and can usually adapt to all of your devices.
* Water: One gallon, per person, per day is what you’ll need. Your pets will need some too.
* Manual can opener: You can pick one up for about $1.
* Flood insurance: It’s worth looking into, even if you don’t live near the water. Flood insurance for low risk areas may cost as little as $129 a year.
