We’re well into lightning season now, which peaks from April to November in most areas...
So how likely are you to be struck? That depends. The short answer is one in 280,000, according to the National Lightning Safety Institute. Those statistics vary by area, time of year and even time of day. Lightning strikes are most frequent between 4 and 7 pm. Unfortunately, this is the time of day when many outdoor games and events take place in open fields or near water where we’re most prone - which of course would increase the odds.
Is it true that if you’ve been struck you are more likely to be struck again? Sort of - but that’s more of a lifestyle statistic. If you continue to engage in lightning-attracting activities such as golf, you're swinging for strike.
