The Frasier fir has a nice scent and excellent needle retention – that’s probably why it’s the number one choice for Christmas trees. Here are some other top choices and their claims to fame:
2. The Douglas fir has a sweet scent when the needles are crushed. And if you’re wondering who Douglas is – it’s David Douglas who studied the tree in the 1800’s.
3. The Balsam fir is really fragrant – has a great pyramid shape – and a nice dark green color.
4. The Blue Spruce is the most popular living tree sold – so you can plant it outside after the holidays.
5. The Scotch pine is popular because it doesn’t drop its needles when it dries out. It’s got the longest lasting aroma too.
