It seems your family doctor might have some competition out there – from local drugstores and retail outlets. Minute clinics are popping up at some of the larger chains – and they’re offering more than flu shots. According to Dr. John Bachman, author of “Family Practice Management,” these retail clinics could really give some private practices a run for their patients. It all started with more affordable and available walk-in flu shots – but now many of them are staffed with nurse practitioners and physician assistants who can offer routine checkups, immunizations and other treatments too.
These retail store clinics accept most major insurance plans, charge a fraction of what most private practices or emergency rooms would – and you can pick up your medicine, milk and shampoo on your way out.
