While it might not make sense to stock up on yogurt or eggs that are on sale, some foods last forever.
Keep your eye out for specials on these items and feel free to buy a lifetime supply:
* Honey: Pure honey may change color or crystallize over time but it keeps safe indefinitely.
* Rice: White, wild, arborio, jasmine and basmati rice all have an indefinite shelf life when stored correctly. Brown rice won’t last as long.
* Sugar: White, brown or powdered sugar won’t spoil because they don’t support bacterial growth. Keep them in a cool, dry area in an airtight container.
* Hard liquor: Distilled spirits such as vodka, rum, whiskey, gin, and tequila don’t spoil, even after opening. Keep it away from direct heat or sunlight.
* Maple syrup: If it’s pure, it will last forever.
* Pure vanilla extract. It’s expensive, but it tastes better than the imitation and won’t go bad.
* Salt: Table, kosher and sea salt are all worth stocking up on if they’re on sale. They’ll never spoil or go stale.
