Can you name the original Seven Wonders of the World?
Most people can’t. If you guessed the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, congratulations. One out of ten people asked couldn’t even get that one. While 61% of those asked guessed the Pyramids, they couldn’t name a second Wonder. A lackluster 6% were able to name them all. Don’t feel bad if you’re in the 94%, the other six Wonders are long gone:
* The Hanging Gardens of Babylon is said to have stood on the River Euphrates around 600 BC before being destroyed by earthquakes.
* The Statue of Zeus at Olympia was disassembled during the 5th and 6th centuries AD and later destroyed by fire.
* The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus in Turkey was destroyed in 401 and only fragments now remain.
* The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus at Bodrum, Turkey was destroyed by earthquakes in 1494.
* The Colossus of Rhodes, a statue of the Greek Titan Helios, was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC.
* The Lighthouse of Alexandria, sometimes called the Pharos of Alexandria also fell to an earthquake in 1303.
You might have better luck guessing the Seven Wonders of the Modern World either, which are the Great Wall of China, Jordan's ancient rock city Petra, Brazil's Statue of Christ Redeemer, the hilltop city of Machu Picchu in Peru, Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid, the Colosseum in Rome and India's Taj Mahal.
