You can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan - but you might want to throw that next round of mini-golf.
A recent study of couples found that men take a real hit when the woman wins. Both men and women were asked to rate their self-esteem before and after a joint or competitive activity. When the woman prevailed, more men reported a significant drop in self-esteem after the loss. Women, on the other hand, seemed to take winning and losing in stride, without much change on the self-esteem scale regardless of the outcome.
The researchers reported these findings can even be a game changer long term, citing that some men had a less optimistic vision for the future and themselves when they considered their partner more likely to succeed.
