Mischief night might have been fun as a kid. For adults – not so much. How to protect your property and your neighbors...

Brace yourself for mischief night...

Many communities have cracked down with curfews and restrictions for the night before Halloween – but that won’t deter some mischief makers. Here are a few precautions to take to protect your property and you neighbors from toilet paper, shaving cream – and worse:

• For your car, your best defense is a protective coat of wax. Now is a good time to apply it.

• If your car is hit, rinse off solid residue that can scratch the paint, such as eggshells, as soon as possible. Then give your vehicle a thorough washing to get rid of the other material. Any acid residue left on there can do some damage when exposed to the sun.

• Keep as many lights on as possible, it definitely deters mischief makers.

• If there is an abandoned house or property nearby – check it from time to time. They’re a prime target for pranks on mischief night and extra prone to damage or fires.

• If you’ve got an elderly neighbor – be a good neighbor and provide an extra set of eyes and ears for them.
