• Choose your outfit ahead of time. Try to blend in. If you’re not sure, it’s better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.
• Practice introducing yourself. You’ll be doing a lot of that. You’ll need your name and new title and a short description of what you’ll be doing or who you’ll be working with.
• Arrive about 15 minutes early. It will take a while to get used to your new commute.
• Don’t try to hit the ground running or prove yourself on day one. Take advantage of your newbie status and stay upbeat and eager to meet new people. If you throw yourself into your work right off the bat, you’ll miss an important social opportunity.
• Have a note pad and pen handy at all times. Your first day should include a lot of listening and note taking. Write down everything from names and positions to questions or suggestions you’ll save for later.
