Grocery shopping on a hot summer day is a completely different errand than at other times of the year ...
...and you might want to pack a cooler. According to the FDA, it takes less than 30 minutes for perishable foods to start to spoil at 90 degrees. On a hot day, the interior of your car and trunk can be sweltering – and one quick stop or traffic hassle on your way home can ruin that expensive food and put you and your family at risk of food-born illness.
Consider keeping a small cooler or insulated bag in your trunk. When you’re loading your car with groceries, take a minute to put the meat, poultry, seafood and eggs in there along with any frozen items and you’ll buy yourself some time for the trip home.
