More workplaces are practicing casual Friday on Monday through Thursday too.
As business casual takes the lead in professional wear, let’s review what that is. It's not the same as casual. According to Virginia Tech Career Services, business casual is crisp, neat, and should look appropriate even for a chance meeting with a CEO. It should not look like cocktail or party or picnic attire. Avoid tight or baggy clothing; business casual is classic rather than trendy.
The business casual basics for both men and women are khaki or dark pants, neatly pressed, and pressed long-sleeved, buttoned solid shirts are a safe choice. Women can opt for the knit or silky top but cleavage is not business-appropriate. Polo or golf shirts are okay IF you know the environment will be quite casual, outdoors or in a very hot location – and if they’re not wrinkled. Guys should wear a leather belt and leather shoes. Girls should have most of their foot covered. Athletic shoes and flip flops are inappropriate.
