What’s in your wallet? Some items to get OUT of there...

You may be carrying stuff around in your wallet or purse that could put your security at risk...

Here’s a list of 5 things to leave home without:

1. Your Social Security Card - and anything with the number on it. ID-theft experts say your Social Security card is the absolute worst item to carry around. Retirees need to check their Medicare card. If it has your SSN on it – make a photocopy and black out the last 4 digits. Carry that copy instead.

2. Password Cheat Sheet: If you must have one – you need to keep that somewhere nobody would think to look.

3. Spare Keys: Your wallet or purse probably has your address somewhere in there. A spare key is not only an invitation to burglary – it’s probably expensive to replace.

4. Checks: Sure, a thief could forge a blank check – but there is also a risk they could use the routing information on there to electronically transfer funds. Carry only the number of checks you’ll need that day and leave the checkbook at home.

5. Passport: It’s the golden ticket for an ID thief. They can do a lot with that document – including getting a new copy of your Social Security Card.
