1. Think of how you could free up more time for work?
2. Spend much more time working than you originally intended?
3. Work in order to reduce feelings of guilt, anxiety, helplessness and/or depression?
4. Not listen to others who think you should cut back on work?
5. Get stressed out when you are prevented from working?
6. Neglect hobbies, leisure activities or exercise because of work?
7. Work so much that it negatively affects your health?
ARE YOU A WORKAHOLIC? If at least 4 of those statements ring true – most likely. Work addiction can be just as detrimental to your health and personal life as substance addiction – and if you just can’t stop, you should seek professional help. If you’re not sure whether or not you’re overdoing it professionally – ask a trusted colleague and a few friends and family members for an honest assessment.
