Diplomacy, we tend to associate that with politics or world peace - but it can come in handy in your everyday life.
Some people are natural diplomats - and the rest of us can learn a thing or two from them. Generally speaking, diplomats are kind, calm, compassionate and convincing. They choose their words carefully, without being disrespectful or too direct. Switching up a few simple phrases can start you on the road to diplomacy:
* Instead of “I know,” say “I understand.”
* Replace “you have to” with “you might consider” or “it might be stronger to…”
* Switch “I need” with “would you consider?”
Good diplomats are masters of reason and use their body language as well as their words. To win someone over, you’ll need to take your time and a few deep breaths. Keep your body and face relaxed with a neutral or pleasant expression - even if you’re churning inside.
