Do you drink your coffee first thing in the morning? Why that’s too early...

If you rely on coffee to get going in the morning – you’re probably drinking it too soon.

According to endocrinologist Dr. Joseph J. Pinzone, 10 am is prime coffee time. He says a lot of us think the coffee gets us going but it’s actually the body’s natural surge of cortisol that is activated as soon as you start your day. That early morning cup of coffee may be getting credit for what your body will do without it.

Dr. Pinzone says, to make the most of your morning coffee, save that until that surge of hormones starts to level off and decline, which is mid to late morning for most of us. As your cortisol levels dip, the later caffeine delivery will kick in and provide a more effective, sustained energy boost. The next best time to have a productive cup of coffee is around 2 pm.
