If you suspect someone is lying to you, here's what to look and listen for...

We’ve all got some powerful built-in lie detectors – our eyes and our ears...

If you suspect someone is lying to you, here are a few things to watch and listen for from the pros:

• Verbal cues: Liars tend to protest a lot and use strong words such as “I swear!” and “To tell you the truth…”. Listen for verbal stumbles too. Liars are 313% more likely to mix up their words.

• Body language barriers: Liars often cross their arms, subconsciously trying to protect themselves. They also tend to place something between the two of you. Watch closely to see if they reach for something such as a pillow, the remote control, or if they move something on the table or desk where they are seated.

• Eye movements: Liars will likely blink slower while they’re lying because they are concentrating on keeping the story straight. Once they relax a bit, that blinking will often speed up and overcompensate.

• Rubbing the nose: It’s a classic – and it happens because the stress of lying unleashes an adrenaline rush full of histamine.
