If your kid gets a lot of muscle cramps – they might need some vitamin D. Here are some more vitamin deficiency symptoms...

Hey kids – eat your vitamins!

Children who don’t have a healthy, well-rounded diet can wind up with some vitamin deficiencies. Fruits and vegetables are the best way to get them – but multi-vitamins will do if you’ve got a picky eater. Different vitamin deficiencies can produce some different symptoms. Here are a few to look for in your child:

• Vitamin D: Kids who lack vitamin D may experience muscle cramps, irritability, poor growth or late teething.

• Vitamin A: Deficiency symptoms can range from tiredness or weakness to dry eyes, hair and weight loss.

• B12: Children who don’t get enough could develop insomnia and begin to lose their voice.

• B6: Hyperactivity, temper tantrums and other inappropriate behavior could suggest a B6 deficiency.

• Vitamin C: Children lacking C may wind up with joint pain, dry skin and a poor appetite.

Kids and vitamins can be tricky. Too much could be toxic – and it’s important to check with your doctor before adding any extra vitamins or supplements.
